My 9 year old daughter had gotten 6 chickens last May for her birthday. She has two bantam silkies and 4 brahmas, roo is a brahma. This is our first back yard chickens. Black silkie, Midnight, became broody. After reading your posts, we decided to let her hatch a couple eggs. We placed 2 silkie eggs and 1 brahma egg under her. Today, egg #28 (laid on 12/28) began to pip. Now this little chick is beginning to zip. (keep in mind, we've learned all these terms on this fabulous site!)
It's a little cold out and we are limiting our access to the nest so the hen stays on the eggs to keep them warm. Our 2nd silkie has also gone broody but has no eggs to sit on.
We'll post pictures as soon as we can. The site filter is limiting our URLs due to spam. Try again soon.
