My DD's darling Pearl had a fatal accident :(

Poor little thing. Accidents are the worst becasue you are not prepared to grieve a loss. Tough lesson at an early age. Maybe some icecream and mommy hugs? That worked for me when I lost pets.

How horrible! I am so sorry for your little girl, and you too. We do the same thing, lift stones for our chickens to peck under. All our chickens are pets like yours too. We've had a few casualties that haunt me... its hard to get over, but more chickens seemed to always help the kids. If you want some OEGB eggs, I'd be happy to ship some to you?

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words. It has been really tough for DD but she seems to be settling down now - I did try to really emphasize that this was just an accident and not something to blame herself for. She has decided no more lifting heavy things around the chickens and they are being extra careful, poor kids. SunnyCalifornia, that is so sweet of you to offer eggs! That just warms my heart! However I am really wanting to find a mix of lavender and mille fleur d'Uccle eggs. We have been looking around for a while and now that this has happened I am all the more determined to get more d'Uccles. I had never intended to have d'Uccles but they were added into another order of hatching eggs and they have won our hearts over. I would really like to get into breeding these little birds - trying to learn what I can and looking for some nice breeding stock.

That must be so hard. I am really sorry.

Tell you daughter we are so very sorry for the loss of Pearl. We just lost Shirley, a little white Silkie, today and her best friend, Laverne is also visibly upset.

Chickens work their way into your heart, don't they?

So sorry Casii! It took a few days and lots of attention and now Amber is looking much more perky and almost back to normal. She has been crowing a lot more since Pearl died - starting within a few minutes of the incident and everyday now at the moment. She has not crowed much at all since we moved but this whole thing started her up again! I really need to get some eggs
