you'll know in a few weeks as leghorns are shaped differently than the Dellies. you'll notice a 'combo' look of some sort!

i will keep track of who pops out of what. can i borrow some of those bands you bought? i would only need five, max for the delahorns.

I just used a green marker, and colored the whole top of their head.
Question, will the other chicks pick at the band?? I'm just wondering, I had thought about doing that at one time, but thought they may torment the poor thing!

I've placed bands on all of my birds (have to change sizes as they grow) and never hand any problems with them pecking at band. I did have a problem with pecking when I use a purple anti-peck medication. Seems like the colored spot became a target for the to peck at. Finally had to remove her to save her.

good ideas, everyone! Ideal marked my 'boys' with green marker and no one seemed affected by it.

shelley has brown bands, so i think they will leave those alone, but i will monitor very closely! thank you again!

how do you sex delawares?? im getting 25 day olds-st run- in a week...and i figure itd be good to learn so i can immediately begin looking for clues

Basically wait until they feather out, your cockerels will normally have more black speck from head down to back, and tail feathers get the barring on them. (by this time the combs should also be Identifiable. Hens will have some black specks like a collar around the neck line, some black on the tail feathers, and in wings. Mine are 5 weeks old though and a few of them have me stumped, Rooster looking combs, not much black. I'm not a 100% on these ones.

I just took these pics tonight of a few of my chicks. I can almost tell who the girls are, but I still can't figure out which ones the Delahorns are

...for sure, anyways. I do have a few which are much more "skittish" than the rest, so I'm thinking that maybe those are my Delahorns.

But only time will tell. If my first presumptions are correct

, I have 8 pullets and 7 cockerels in this hatch...so not too bad at all.

I've also included a pic of my 2 black australorp girls from Ideal. They are the sweetest of them all...just so super friendly. I also have a black sex link pullet growing up with these guys/gals, but she's just too hyper-diaper for me to get a good pic...she's not flighty, she just won't stand still!
