I wonder if it's too late to introduce horizontal nipple waterers to adult ducks?

Adult ducks might take to it. Ducks are really smart. If you lay down sand around the drinker for your adult ducks, any dribbling will go down into the sand and prevent any puddling. A ducks beak is too big to allow them to scoop the water without a dribble, but the mess around my drum drinker never gets bad. The ducks like it.

That's great. What I find most appealing about the nipple waterers is that you can keep a clean water source a long time for drinking. I'm giving my ducks fresh water three times a day right now. Always looking for ways to make my efforts last longer! Thanks!

I use half gallon ice cream buckets. Mine don't seem to see any reason to sit in them as the buckets are pretty small and they have a pool for swimming in. I keep them tight to the fence so they can't sit around them and poo in them as much. They still do of course. I simply keep an old scrub brush near the hose and scrub them out each night.

The best part is that you do need to replace them every so often which means you get to buy more ICE CREAM!

I hate to tell you but that's kinda what ducks do. What they can't eat they crap on... and sometimes what they can eat they crap on too. Ducks just crap everywhere.

We use our duckling drinker when they are small and then use a shallow pan when they're older. They get the pan to dunk their heads in and bathe. If they dump it out (I should say "when" they dump it) they can use the horizontal nipple drum to tide them over until I can go re-fill their pan.

The set-up in that first video is sooo genius! Could the idea of larger pipe fittings be converted to the water drum and used as adult ducks I wonder? Even the second set-up as a backup water source seems pretty life changing!

I imagine it could be done if the container could be fitted with an air tight cap at the top and a different way to attach the cups maintaining a water tight seal at the bottom. You'd have to cap the cups during filling to prevent all the water from rushing out, of course. I'm not sure how big of a container would be workable. The water pressure might push the water out of the cups even with a vacuum.

Thank you for responding! I'll have to mention this idea to my husband, very good point about the pressure being too much. If bigger (sewer size?) pipes were used it would be really ideal if the ducks were still able to submerge their heads a little. Maybe have a collection area and two pipes joined out either side. I'm still not sure how that would really work, but my husband is very resourceful and loves fixing problems. I'll have to present this idea to him. My babies are only 3 weeks old so I do not have any real world experience to go off of yet!

This is awesome - thanks for sharing - I have a 5 gallon oil container I got from a kitchen that was throwing it out. I am going to try that for my adult ducks - I have a one gallon oil jug that I use as a secondary water system that has some ovals cut into it - they like the open round water dish I have best but with the second at least I know they won't run out...

I'm new to ducks. Have lots of chickens. I'mean getting them Saturday. They have lake access (the fence line for their fun goes into the lake) they have a house on the beach. I put in a feeder. Do I need a waterer too or is the lake fine?
