My dog broke into the pen and killed my best hens- so sad

My ex boyfriends sister had two rat terriers both hyper as heck. When it got free a couple times it headed straight for the ducks and chickens and there was no stopping it. It killed a duck and a chicken. She kept it chained and it dug under a fence near by and got strangled, sad. It was just so darn hyper, those guys really need training...well all dogs do. Its sad and I am sorry for your loss.

I have Lab mixes, both introduced to chickens past the age of 1 yr. They are doing wonderfully. No mishaps in 4 years now.

I say get another dog, sort of like your collie, and make sure you are the alpha dog on your property. It makes a world of difference in your training results if the dogs have respect for your authority~ even when you are not around.
