Even young LGD breeds (which she is not) need supervision for a long time, so yes she still has hope. HOWEVER - she is a dog made of herding breeds and herding IS PREY DRIVE under control. If you arent there to guide it, she doesnt know what to do.
As for her "knowing" what she did -nope, she knew you were mad. Dont think she couldnt tell from the second you opened the door. Dogs are masters of body language and can read you from the angle of your pinky finger. To prove this, they have done studies where a dog was taken out of a room, a turd placed in the room and the owner returned and gave no indication of anger. The dog still acted "guilty". It even did it when the turd didnt belong to that dog! The dogs had simply learned that when a turd was on the floor the owner would be angry.
