I don't hit mine either, except when I'm pounding on their butts and they LIKE it... strange how that happens. You can beat the ever-living poop outta them when you're playing, but change that tone of voice or the body language, and it's TOTALLY different.

Our mama dog, I can take my open hand and slap her hard enough on the top of the butt to hurt my HAND and she sticks her nose up in the air just licking away with pleasure...

Yup... it is weird how they know....

And, I do the same thing

... My female will literally stick her butt UP in the air for me to spank her... and then roll around like a big goof ball ,grinning.

I have seen Pyrs at work at our feed store and they will put their body between us and their chickens its their job we was strangers but they never growled at us.
Mostly they leaned on us I wasn't sure if I should pet him but the owner said its ok not to worry he is just doing his job. so I gave it a pat on the back and he just rubbed his head on my stomach they are huge dogs a lot bigger than my american bulldog females. But you know you would think I would have more problems out of my dogs being the breed they are and the prey drive they have but I have never once had a single problem. We started the alpha training when they was puppies, but they are never ever off the lead they go from their crate on the lead to outside on the lead. I wouldn't chance letting them be around my chickens ever.

I am waiting on our feed store guy to start breeding his dogs again he trains them before he sends them to their new homes.
