Our 3 year old pit bull Rocko, the self proclaimed protecter of our flock, has gotten into a bad habit of going behind the chickens and eating their poop, you would swear they had bags of skittles flying out their buttes they way he goes out hunting for scat.
So far he hasn't gotten sick and I can't have an eye on him every second he's outside with me, any ideas on how to break him from this habit? The chick's have free range around the house and is hate to have to leash him just because he's outside.
Thanks!

Oh it's universal. My dog gentle pokes their bustle, as if they're a pez dispenser.
Back when I used to herd with my dogs, they were expert at never taking their eyes off the sheep while scooping the poop.

I thought I just had a super weird gross dog. The chickens are not a fan because he is always trying to stick his nose in their business. He is a smaller dog and they just fluff up and charge him. But he is either eating diggin or rolling in whatever they expel.

I have two beagles that eat poop then try to lick my face so nasty the dog will learn to stop sticking his nose in there biz they will teach him

Add a TBSP of ACV to the dogs water. It wont prevent the behavior but it will prevent him from getting sick in case your chickens get sick. Also if you have not gotten the lepto vaccine do so. A dog that eats feces is bound to eat feces other than chicken poo. It is a hard habit to train out so I suggest getting some books on dog psychology.
