It's on us to keep predator and prey separate and to train our dogs. It's not on them for having instincts. My dog killed one of my first chickens and a chicken who had just got over being medicated and snuggled every day along with an old barred rock I got from someone. She went to the pound after a week of trying to find her a home. Chicken killers can’t be fixed and shouldn’t be around chickens. I hope you can fence them in good and keep your dogs on a certain part of your property
The dog was my uncles that he was going to be taking her to the pound but we took her and we already had the chickens. Yes I get I eat chicken and cows but if they’re my pets then I will value them way higher than that dog. She was super good with not attacking them until that day, and they stayed in their run so it wasn’t the chickens fault. But we tried to rehome her and nobody wanted her because here most people will take them to a feild and POW!!!It's on us to keep predator and prey separate and to train our dogs. It's not on them for having instincts.
I've been upset with my dog before, but I can't for the life of me imagine treating her like a criminal over her displaying natural behaviours. Like, oh snap! shock! Horror! My dog doesn't want to cuddle a prey animal! Oh no! Off to the pound you go, feral beast!
I agree - dogs and chickens are different, IMO. Dogs are very intelligent and are affected a lot psychologically when they are rehomed, especially multiple times. It can confuse them, make them anxious, sad, and possibly completely change their behavior, often for the worse. It's not fair to do that to an intelligent animal like a dog. Now chickens are smart, but they don't bond with and understand humans like a dog can.And in my opinion, especially if the dog has been there longer, choosing a chicken over your dog is stupid, dogs are so loyal and loving to their owner. That's just me though I respect others opinion
IMO chickens, reptiles, and cats have always been better companions to me other than a singular dog who protects my flock. My chickens are cute and cuddly. My cats are stupid in a nondestructive way and my reptiles are just beautiful and derpy at the same timeI agree - dogs and chickens are different, IMO.
