My dogs are demons.

My dog killed one of my first chickens and a chicken who had just got over being medicated and snuggled every day along with an old barred rock I got from someone. She went to the pound after a week of trying to find her a home. Chicken killers can’t be fixed and shouldn’t be around chickens. I hope you can fence them in good and keep your dogs on a certain part of your property

It's on us to keep predator and prey separate and to train our dogs. It's not on them for having instincts.

I've been upset with my dog before, but I can't for the life of me imagine treating her like a criminal over her displaying natural behaviours. Like, oh snap! shock! Horror! My dog doesn't want to cuddle a prey animal! Oh no! Off to the pound you go, feral beast!

The dog was my uncles that he was going to be taking her to the pound but we took her and we already had the chickens. Yes I get I eat chicken and cows but if they’re my pets then I will value them way higher than that dog. She was super good with not attacking them until that day, and they stayed in their run so it wasn’t the chickens fault. But we tried to rehome her and nobody wanted her because here most people will take them to a feild and POW!!!💥 without considering rehoming if they kill a chicken. I get the “oh it’s a dog it’s survival instincts dogs are such precious important creatures” but I love chickens more than dogs. There is like 6 dogs in the world where if I was given an option on whether to kill an egg laying chicken or that dog and it’s my dog Rusty and some family members dogs. I love my dog Rusty and if nova had been around long enough I would have loved her too. I’m just going to end it off saying Nova was lucky we lied on why we got rid of her to the pound because dogs like her get put down here.

I just wanted to say this:
This is directed at nobody, just facts. Dogs are predators, they can and definitely will kill prey animals. Even dogs that were trained or bred to protect livestock can flip and kill the herds and flocks they are meant to protect. Anyone saying a dog is bad for doing this is wrong, it's INSINCT. The Great thing is dogs can almost always be rehabilitated, of course not every time and it takes patience and time and there can be setbacks but saying the dog can't be helped and needs to be rehomed is simply wrong. If you rather rehome that's fine, but it is not fair ir factual to say the dogs can't be helped. It is and always will be the humans responsibility to keep predator(dogs) and prey (livestock) separate and safe from eachother.

And in my opinion, especially if the dog has been there longer, choosing a chicken over your dog is stupid, dogs are so loyal and loving to their owner. That's just me though I respect others opinion

I already had a fenced yard for my dogs when I got chickens so I didn't have to build a fence to separate them. I often wish I'd spent more time training them so I could have free ranged my chickens sooner

I agree - dogs and chickens are different, IMO. Dogs are very intelligent and are affected a lot psychologically when they are rehomed, especially multiple times. It can confuse them, make them anxious, sad, and possibly completely change their behavior, often for the worse. It's not fair to do that to an intelligent animal like a dog. Now chickens are smart, but they don't bond with and understand humans like a dog can.

IMO chickens, reptiles, and cats have always been better companions to me other than a singular dog who protects my flock. My chickens are cute and cuddly. My cats are stupid in a nondestructive way and my reptiles are just beautiful and derpy at the same time
