--Went to open up my Duckhouse this morning and found the Drake was not there. The duck is now going around quacking
frantically. I guess what I need to know is will she fly off to find a new mate, or will she just pine herself to death.
This is a very sad day for me as my pair has been together for three years.

Oh no!!! If they were locked away, how could that happen?

What breed are we talking about?

How long has he been gone . I have a couple that took a walk about and came back .. If they were a pair I dont think hed leave her for too long if he was able to come back .. I had to buy a replacment Love for my heart broken Peking as he walked around soooo Sad aftr a Fox got his Gal .. It took him a while to adjust but now has settled into his second Love .. WE Had a Very bad Flood one year and washed a pair of my ducks down stream I thought I lost them four days later they came waddeling up to me with a look of where have you been .

My Drake has been gone since last night. We arrived home after dark and my son locked the duck house up thinking they
were both inside. When I opened them up this morning I discovered there was only the Duck in there. She has been plodding
around the outside of the house all day with her head hung down at her chest. She has been calling to him frantically. They
were a couple, joined at the hip so its really odd that he would just leave her in the lurch. There is no sign of predation either.
If Coyotes or even a Fox had taken him surely there would be some signs, but no. I did put in an order for two day old Buff Orpington ducks( I forgot to mention in my first post that they are Buff Orpingtons) but when I called this morning to find out if I could change one of my ducks on the order for a Drake the Hatchery had no record of my original order. This crap happened last year too. I think I must be jinxed or something. However I am now encouraged with the replies that if do manage to get another
Drake that my little duck will bond with him. So I will be looking in earnest for a new Drake. I am just a little bummed right now.

If a fox had taken your drake, it wouldn't necessarily have left any signs (I know this from experience).

I do hope he comes home, but I'm not optimistic about it for you; sorry

Hope the hatchery doesn't lose your new order; good luck with that.

I agree with Mum if fox or coyote got your drake they would snatch and run probably to feed the young they have right now. So sorry for your loss. I count heads every evening before locking up because one night one of my chickens didn't make it into the coop thank goodness she was still here in the morning. Hoping you can find another mate for your duck, i know she's heart broken.
