My 10mo Drake, Mr. T, has turned into a mean little jerk. He has 5 ladies to keep him happy but lately he has been attacking me rather viciously.
At first it was a bit funny but now it actually hurts when he goes at me.

I think I may have started this feud the two of us have developed because I wanted to get him to tolerate being touched which likely just pissed him off more and now he hates me. And now i have to sometime pick him up to get him to leave me alone which doesn't help his feelings towards me.

I love him but hes making me mad and it's hard to do things in their pen when hes at my ankles all the time.

I am willing to be the bigger person here and offer a truce. I do not plan to handle him anymore except when a absolutely neccessary( even if that does mean I cant touch his extra soft and fluffy head) I plan to give give him hand fed treats any and everytime I go in the pen (hes perfectly happy to take treats from my hand and fight off his girls for the all the treats as well the piggy) but does anyone have any other suggestions to help repair this relationship?

Thanks in advance. Attached is a picture of the my little demon.

You might want to try dominating him the same way another drake would. Let him know you are not to be attacked and hopefully earn some respect or even trust.

To do this, you'll want to basically mount him. Straddle him in between your knees without, place a hand on his upper neck, and pin him to the ground. You don't need to be rough, ans the goal is not to cause any harm, just to restrain him. This is the same position a competing (and winning) drake would put him in.

Just hold him until he calms down. Normally for me that's only about 30 seconds.

Just so you don't think I'm crazy (which is actually acceptable) @Miss Lydia can confirm it works very well without anyone getting hurt.

Thanks I may try that! I've heard that you have to show them up but I never knew how to do it. I just thought you had to stand off with him which wasnt working too well for me haha

I can confirm that dominating a drake works wonder. Maybe not after the first time, but if you keep it up for one or two days it will work for sure. Just don't flinch! ;)
And after a month or so he may try it again and needs to be served the same treatment.
My first a-hole drake, Donald (r.i.p.) just needed to be pinned down to the ground with a heavy hand for !30 seconds to get the message.

You all are wonderful!! I love my beautiful boy but his behavior is out of hand and being a first time duck owner I really appreciate the help! I will try this next time he goes at me (mornings, bed time, and when he knows I'm letting them out to forage he behaves). I feel better knowing that this has work for multiple people

It defiantly is the time of year! Also carry the broom with you when you go inside their pen use it as a block he isn’t to go past it after you. If he does use the broom to sweep his butt away. Playing the dominant role is always good, main thing is being consistent . My drake is going on 9 yrs old and is such a sweet heart but I still have to remind him and my gander I will not tolerate bad behavior.

A broom is a good tip.
