Today my 1 year old khaki Campbell drake, Griffin, unexpectedly passed away. When I came home I found him weak and unable to move except for his head. His eyes were watering. I tried tube feeding him electrolyte but he died shortly after that. I’m pretty sure the tubing didn’t kill him - I’ve done it before and carefully followed the directions. My only guess is botulism. There is no bird flu in the area. He seemed ok in the morning. Griffin survived a mongoose attack last year (I posted about it here) and was such a brave survivor. He loved peas and going swimming. He was my only purebred khaki campbell, and I was planning on hatching some of his ducklings next month. Unfortunately he was not living with my girl ducks so I will never have any of his offspring.

In this picture he is the smaller khaki Campbell in the back

So sorry for your loss.... It`s always tough to lose a pet no matter what the circumstances are. 😥

I am sad for you and your boy. When we bond strongly with our ducks, it's wrenching to lose one, particularly when it is unexpected. My son lost a beloved pekin about a month ago. It was out of the blue. He came home and found her sitting by the wading pool. But she didn't get up and run to him, as she had passed. We are still mourning her.

I'm sure you will be sustained by your happy memories. Think of the good times, don't dwell on his passing. Look at your photos and remember his love of peas. Sending cyberhugs

Thank you and I’m so sorry about your son’s Pekin😢.

These ducks really become so special to me and it’s shocking when they’re gone.
