In the mean time.....Im going to make this. As i support her chest, she literally is ready to take off in a full normal walk and fast. Maybe I can see how she does with a sling and wheels.... More of a calcium supplement is being picked up tomorrow as well as some pain meds and she will hopefully be zipping around in her sling vs limping....and if this isn't going to work then at least i can say I tried!

This is my Rona! I ordered duck diapers and it came at the perfect time!

Please understand that pain is a GOOD thing.. in that it slows us down and limits our range of motion so we don't further injure ourselves... It lets our body know there is an issue that should not be pushed.

If you're administering pain relief.. I would suggest.. crate rest or confinement as well.. to allow the recovery to happen.

The sling is a great option to aid in physical therapy if tolerated well by the bird! Does she need a hole added for droppings to get through?

Personally I have taken great comfort knowing that I have tried everything within my capabilities to help my ducks. Following veterinary recommendations has also relieved me of a lot of second guessing and stress. When my vet gives me more than one option I sometimes ask, "What would you do if she was your duck?" If they say that 2 options are comparable I usually choose whichever one will be the least painful/stressful for my duck, while still being best for her long term.

Sometimes no matter what I do, no matter how much money I spend, no matter how closely I follow the veterinary advice I can't save my duck. But sometimes I can! Because I'll never know I will always try.

I understand how it can be so overwhelming in an appointment. I bring a notebook and try to write down important things I'm going to forget. Then when I get home I think of a bunch of questions. I write those down and call or ask them at a follow-up appointment.

I'm hoping it allows her to rest and heal. But if she starts to decline, then I know what will have to happen. I'd rather try something than nothing!
