My duck has a swollen cheek!!!! Help!!!

That's a sinus infection. Pick up the duck and press on the swollen part--you will see snot come out of it's nostrils. You need to get ahold of Baytril in tablet form. It's one of the best thing for ducks with sinus infections!!! It looks like a call duck, right? So, if so, you can give a half a tablet 2x a day for 5-7 days. Good luck!

The thing about infections in birds is- the pus is more like the consistancy of cottage cheese or even more solid. It cant be " squezed out. It needs to be actually scraped off and some of the underlying tissue removed as well. Unfortunately- if not treated correctly- the abcess will reform- and eventually could cut off the windpipe if it gets large enough.

My little Stuart has the same thing. He is a call duck that hatched this spring and his bill is deformed. I too, think (because his nostrils are so misshapen) he has a sinus infection. He started Baytril yesterday. I am afraid of lancing it because the face is so vascular and there is just not enough area to work with. I hope the Baytril works well enough. Good luck with your little duckie.

Thanks so much for all the help I will get him on Baytril, but right now Im going to take him to vets

Be sure to mention things you have read here if the vet is not an avian specialist. One particular vet I once saw who was not used to dealing with birds was a little stumped as far as suggested treatments. Giving as much information as you can will assist them in better understanding the situation. Best of luck with him. I hope he makes a speedy recovery and it does not re-occur.

Its gone his cheek is not swollen anymore

I have one question. What size Baytril tablet would I need to

I have a question. What Mg Baytril tablet would I need? One of my pekin ducklings has it and it's eye is now starting to rain with water. So I would like to get it fixed soon.
