My Duck Hatched A Chicken!!!

I had a bantam hen hatch 4 white call ducks this spring. She was a very good mother.

Not to disagree with you bantymum, but I feed all my ducklings Purina Start & Grow and they do just fine with it. It contains amprolium...a preventative for coccidiosis. They call it medicated even tho it's really a preventative.

I agree tho it'll need food and water before the ducklings hatch.

Not to spoil the good mood, but once a broody chicken's eggs hatch, the mama will leave any unhatched eggs after a few days.
Being mama duck's first hatchling is out, will she do the same
and leave the unhatched duck eggs?

IMHO, I wouldnt add any eggs to her pack. Let the rest hatch -28 days for ducks- and let her care for those. You never know when she is going to stop sitting, ecspecially now that you havev a hatch. Adding more might just lead to her leaving 2 weeks in and you trying to figure out what to do with half developed eggs!

Since you said you had a muscovie. 28 days will not be long enough...they go like 35 days or so. read the above posts on muscovie hatch times. this is an exciting post. I have heard of hens hatching other eggs but not of the ducks so we will love to see pictures when you can get them.

Update: Momma ducks is still on her eggs and the little chick is peeping like crazy. I got her to eat and drink some.. so she is doing great. My husband is in the process of making me a new "nursery box" with a heat lamp and all. so I am excited! I promise to send pictures soon. I ended up working the passed couple of nights.. so i didnt get the pictures yet.. so I am hoping to get some this weekend!!

I am moving the baby into the nursery box which better be done this weekend. I just feel bad.. sine there are no other babies to put with her. Any ideas?

I do have baby silkies and ducklings.. but i am afriad they will step and kill her.. cause they are considerably older then her. Any ideas? I dont want the baby lonely. And I can't leave her with the duck momma.
