My duck suddenly got a swollen red leg overnight, what do I do?

I have a male pekin duck, and as I was going to feed in the morning I noticed he couldn’t get up. Usually he will quack and wait by his feeding bowl, but he was laying in the middle of his cage. The cage is pretty big, enough to roam around and has a swimming pool. I also have a female duck with him, and she’s currently laying in her nest. I went to check him and he noticed he was panting and couldn’t get up. I saw that his leg was a little swollen, and I took him home and gave him a warm bath to put the pressure off his foot. Although, I noticed now it’s really red and swollen compared to his other foot. He always had a little waffle and his legs were always aimed forward, but he didn’t bother him. Could that be the reason? His weight got to heavy for him? What could be the cause of this and can this be fixed?

Welcome to BYC! May I suggest that you remove the bandage from his leg? That bandage could be cutting off his circulation.

I think the problem is bumble foot. These red arrow are pointing to what I think is infection. Any chance you can get him to a vet tomorrow?

I'm not 100% sure but that looks like it could be bumble foot? Also, make sure that vet wrap isnt on too tight, it will cut off circulation to the foot. The foot looks a lot redder in the after wrap picture.

Was it that red before you wrapped it? I'm thinking tendon snapped..

loss of circulation, and bumblefoot, needs to be checked out really soon.

It's probably bumblefoot. You can read online about some things to do for him, or see a vet. My chickens have had bumblefoot in the past, and it is treatable.

Why snapped tendon? I’d think only a vet could diagnose something like that?

Why bumble foot on every post too. A torn tendon can be the issue too..Sciatic issues. Etc..Definitely a Vet is the best..

If you look you can actually see the bumble I didn’t say that was causing the swelling in his leg but could be if the infection has spread.
