I have a 1 yr old Cayuga named Scout. I have no clue what happened to her as my husband walked out this morning and found feathers all over by the back door so he went to her pen. her gate had been opened and she was in her crate... Part of her neck is missing and she has a section missing off her backside. She immediately ran to me when I ran out to her and stays in my lap. I bathed her to clean her wounds and to see just how bad she is. I cannot find a waterfowl vet so I'm hoping someone has some advice....She's the 4th pretty duck I've had and I've never encountered this.

When you say missing.. .what is missing.. .feathers (nothing to worry about), skin (clean, apply antibiotic salve, and cover with gauze), or muscle (similar to skin but much more serious)?

Sounds like a hawk attack, I think. When my hen was attacked there were a lot of feathers around because the hawk basically pinned her and began plucking. Hawks often start at the neck too. My hen had an injury to her windpipe so had to be put down. I hope your duck recovers!

clint, the neck portion is definitely muscle as part of it is hanging and you cann see the difference between left/right side. as for her backside, im not sure. definitely skin missing but it also appears a "chunk" might be gone. I am trying to upload pics but im using this site on my phone so im not sure they took. I belwive my 3 mo old pup wanted to play with her and somehow managed to get her pen open.

Definitely try to post some pics. In the meantime, try keeping the wounds as clean as possible. Also be sure she's in a secure environment that's quiet and calm so she's not too stressed. Somewhere thats clean and safe for a duck. Can she still walk fine or is she too weak? How is she breathing too? I am so sorry that this happened to your duck.
I hope she gets better soon! :fl

I have her in my bedroom in her kennel without a door. She is staying either in that or she crawls in my lap if I sit in the floor. She can walk but is limping on her right leg. I've put Vetericyn on her wounds and will keep applying.
I know fir sure it was my pup. He recently threw up a large amount of feathers with full quills attached. :-(

That's too bad, using Veterycin is good I like it alot mainly because you don't have to touch the wound after initial cleaning. Keeping her quiet making sure she has plenty of fresh water and food. she'll most likely make it. Then on to some dog training.

If you can get some poultry vitamins to put in her water that will give her an added boost too.
