my duck is 9 month old and live in a large hut outside and iv noticed her feathers have recently been plucked on her back under her wings and holes on her beak but the first thing that went through my head was mice or rats but it’s a strange place for her feathers to be plucked on her back and these no blood anywhere? she laid an egg a month ago and it was soft, does anyone have any idea what it could be? should i be concerned?

Do you have a male? It could be caused by mating.

i have a male but they are really gentle with each other

Could her bill have possibly gotten caught on something such as barbed wire, a protruding nail, etc? Additionally, is it possible she is trying to get into somewhere she shouldn’t be? Possibly an opening she’s attempting to squeeze through? That could explain the damaged and missing feathers.
