Hey y’all, I feel like I’m always making new posts about my ducks where it’s to the point some of y’all are probably wondering why I even got them in the first place
it might just be I’m an overly cautious and paranoid first time duck parent or I’m just really bad at it. But either way, y’all have saved me every time!
Long story short, this year when ordering more chickens I decided to give ducks a try. Started with 2 Pekin’s, fell in love, and now have 6 anacona ducklings which are about 6 weeks old. About 2 weeks ago I integrated them full time into the rest of the flock.
My concern is that one of them isn’t doing so much as a peep. Not from lack of trying though. I know it USE to peep as I had a very close eye on all 6 ducklings when they were in the brooder.
I’ve only noticed this in the past few days but it could have had this problem for up to 2 weeks (when they were integrated with the rest of the flock). I’m attaching a video below so you guys can listen.
She/he TRIES to peep but barley anything comes out. The best way I could describe it as “airy”. Definitely not raspy as you would expect from a boy. But maybe some boys sound like this? What do I know
Besides being a little under developed(lowest in the pecking order), it acts fine. Sits down more than I would want it to, but not too much to be of concern. Been giving lots of niacin supplements to help her/him out.
Any thoughts?
Here’s the video, and just in case you can’t tell, it’s the smaller one with LESS black on its head:
