I have 17 six week old ducklings, cayuga and muscovy, pretty much straight run. We have handled them from day one gently, but they have always avoided contact and not enjoyed petting or attention and are obviously relieved when they are left alone. While they waddle over when we go out with the food caddy or venture closer for fresh water, they mostly spend all their time avoiding me.
Did I miss a window of opportunity to make these ducks my friends? We raised friendly chickens. But the ducklings have never taken food from our hands like the chickens always have.
I'm new to poultry, does anyone have suggestions for me?

Treats, treats, and more treats. Try sitting on the ground and feeding them treats like lettuce, but only give it to them if they come close enough to you to grab it from your hand.

I learned this at school: You need to place the duckling somewhere it cant run away and sit down there. Then you need to be very quiet and eventually it will come to you. It helps if you have some treets like mealworms. My school specialized in animal care.

i gave mine peas at 3.5 weeks...they love them and it hasn't seemed to hurt them any, they are growing like crazy
