My ducklings think I ate their friends

In my very, very limited experience with ducklings....

I recently had the problem of having to catch my crew one at a time to move them to/from their pool outside from/to their cleaned-up pen inside. I caught them all, but they were none too happy about it. Result: They wanted nothing to do with me.

Solution: That night I left the back door open with the light on, which attracted a great many flying moths and other bugs. One at a time I captured a bug, and hand fed it to each one of my three week old pekin (9) and blue swede (1) ducklings.

Now I can not even come into the room without them stampeding across their pen towards me, squealing away. And this was after only one night of bug feeding.

Not sure how you feel about bugs, but to ducklings... "They are the bees knees!"

Well, I didn't make it to the grocery store for peas as treats. Unfortunately I did make it to Family Farm & Fleet. Now my 2 scared ducklings have 3 chicks to keep them company. I wasn't sure about mixing, i just couldn't seem to stop myself.

For those who asked... I always take pictures after the daily cleaning. Here's another one.

Awww...lovely pic...
My last lot of cayugas had chick playmates and they did just fine together, but wait for the look on the chicks' faces when they see the ducklings jump in water for the first time
