So my husband dug out the area in front of my duck's pen and placed our huge kiddy pool in the ground and added a drainage system. It's not done yet so there's a huge pile of dirt next to it. Since then my ducks will not approach the pool and act very scared, I'm assuming of the dirt pile? The last few days when I've let them out the pen to forage they haul butt up to the other side of the yard and stay there until they put themselves up at night. This morning they refuse to come out. I've thrown cut up watermelon and oranges outside and even made a trail of mealworms to their untouched pool. No luck. Any suggestions? I don't want to terrorize them so I'm trying to keep my distance but its 93 here today and I think they need to get in the water and under some shade trees. Their pen is covered and well ventilated and they have water in there but I still think they should be out...TIA!

It makes me giggle the things that scares the hell out of the ducks. You are doing what I would be doing if I were in your situation so I am going to wait for the more experienced
duck folk to chime in.
I'd be shoveling that dirt if I could but I'm in my third trimester and don't want to start preterm labor over these silly butts. totally exasperated.

I guess dear hubby needs to puck up the gauntlet or in this case the shovel. Move that big dirt monster and all will be normal again after they get use to the pool being different. :lau Congrats on your upcoming Little one!!
