My ducks are coming home today! Advice welcome.

Just saying I don't think anyone here would recommend she give her ducks calcium supplement because they aren't laying since she brought them home After all she is already giving a calcium supplement by using oyster shells. So why make the comment?

That is all I have to say about it.

X2. The only time people recommend giving extra calcium is when there is a problem with a bird laying soft shelled or shell-less eggs, or when a bird is egg bound.

The ducks survived in their unsafe temp house, they did escape this morning when the cat climbed on the roof and scared them. The husband is helping today and we should finish up. Attached the big AFrame to the duck house so now it's all stable. Wrapped it with fencing, still need to add fencing the rest of the way up. Found the big piece of plywood on the side of the road a few days ago and it's going to be the human door, positioned it by the duck house to double as a wind block. Headed to the hardware store for a few more hinges and locks. The ducks will get to finally swim this afternoon!

The part you have wrapped in fencing? I'd like to rec. you put hardware cloth over that part up that high too. That way nothing can reach in and grab a duck.

Looks great !:thumbsup

Thanks! Still a bit of work to go to make it more predator proof, but now it shouldn't blow over and the ducks cannot escape.

Are bobcats reachers? Now I'm paranoid because my husband just saw one this evening and I saw one about a month ago.

The ducks will still get locked in just their house when it's dark and the coyotes are more active.

For some reason in the day time my Runners like to sleep up against the fence and I have seen raccoons in the day. They are the only ones of my ducks that do this. Always best to err on the side of caution.

Sorry to make you paranoid but I have been on here a long time and have seen and heard the worst. :hugs

I've been paranoid since before my chickens came home last spring! :lau Seriously though, I know I live in a part of the country with every type of predator and have seen them all! The very first night I had my chickens I watched out the window as the coyotes came and walked within 10 ft of the coop. There are ALWAYS improvements to be added to coop security.

We have em too, Very scary to hear the coyotes so close thankfully I have dachshunds and they bark a lot and Hopefully keep preds away during the day. Other than flying preds they still come around .
