My Ducks are Lost!

Well what i've noticed from our runners is even though we let em out to range, they still don't go far from their coop. We've had em about two weeks now, and they have just started to free range with our chickens. Ours will get in the taller weeds, behind plywood, under our pool cover, under our truck, and they LOVE to hide in the chicken coops roostin box where all our chickens spend their nights! Hope this helps, cuz we too have 4 acres! We were worried about letting ours free range that much space.

Our new duckling who is a week old we let outside with supervision, and she doesn't go far from us or the back door, but she does like to hide! In the pond rocks, bushes, under our outdoor chairs, in the dog house.!

Hope you find your babies!

Oh no!!! I hope they turn up somewhere safe and sound. I have never had that problem as all my ducks are contained in my suburban back yard, but I have had to clip wings sometimes when I introduce a new duck. I hope they have stayed safe overnight.

Well I went out last night with my dog on a 30 foot leash and walked the property. I was hoping my dog would sniff them out, but no luck. I looked under brush and as best I could in the woods.

I also put "LOST DUCKS" posting on Craigslist. Maybe I'll get lucky and one of my neighbors have seen them.

I'm going to get another pair tomorrow, and have made a pen to keep them in with the chickens for 2 weeks before letting them range. If the original 2 show up I'll keep all 4.

Chances are they aren't far. Any neighbors with ponds, creeks, even a pool... they love to be in water! My ducks never wandered far, but I hatched them. This has always been their home. How far away does the person you got them from live? Birds have homeing capabilities. BUT ducks (not as bad as chickens) can get distracted easily. A nice water source with some good weeds to bed in will be their new home.

Good luck! Ask all the neighbors!
