Its kinda hard to explain but I'll try..

First I stood the log up on it's end and on both front and back starting at the top of where I wanted the nest, bore cut straight across the side of the log and cut down to where I wanted the bottom. Then at the top and bottom made cuts so the pieces would come out.. then from front to back repeat the bore cuts on both sides.. Then bore cut the top and bottom and take out the square piece where I needed the nest to be. I cut the hole in the front piece that I took off.. I nailed the front piece back on and hinged the back for clean out...

I'll show my hubby...I don't know what 'bore cut' is for sure....w/ a sawzall type of saw? Did you use any hinges or screws for easier cleanup and removal of back door?

As for where to buy them, they're many breeders that have these, but most only sell in the fall.. mine came from a byc member that was selling her pair.

Riffecreek - who/where did you get them from? My fiancée and I are planning on getting into some wild and exotic breeds this fall, after we get moved onto our new property and have the proper facilities for them. The Black Bellied Whistling Ducks have been on my wishlist since I was a little girl and I saw them at the zoo! They're just stunning, congrats!

Mine came from exoticduckluvr here on byc that I bought off the auction here.. As my understanding, this was the only pair she had of the black bellies. But she listed another breed of exotic ducks on the auction.. There is a few on here that has them, but most are either sold out of pairs until fall or wont ship because of the hot weather.. As I assume you know, these types can handle the cold, but cant take the heat while being shipped in the mail..

here is a video of them playing in the pen.. this starts about 45 minutes before dark.. and right at daylight.. This lasts for 20-30 minutes or longer
