My ducks have been very quite and inactive

I had 7 call ducks, they are 1 year old. Recently two of them died. 1 got eaten and 1 got sick. Ever since my duck got eaten by a raptor. My ducks have been very inactive and quite. They would always be swimming and foraging. Now they’re always laying down. My girls will always quack very loud when they see me, typical call ducks. Now they don’t make a single noise. Could the death of their sibling cause this?

Sorry to hear about the loss of your ducks. The death of those two ducks definitely can cause this. It was a traumatic event, and they are going to be more cautious after a predator attack. It may take them a while before they start to feel comfortable again. Some individual ducks may take it harder than others, especially those that spent the most time with the ducks that died.

I recently lost a duck to a hawk. One duck in particular took it harder than others. She is been a bit depressed lately. This is about 2 months later now. We brought her in the other day to keep an injured duck company and gave her some private bath time. She is now starting to come out of her shell again and acts much happier. So give it time. Some will bounce back quickly, and others will take longer.
