My ducks were attacked - one severely injured

I had such a scare today! My 17 day old ducklings were in their playpen right outside my kitchen window (I only put them in the playpen when I’m nearby) and I heard them crying and sounding agitated. I looked out and there was a mongoose nosing along the wire trying to get in!!!! I bolted out the door yelling. The mongoose ran when I got close and my ducklings were all ok. It didn’t get in, but I was so shaken up and so were the babies. No more playpen time for them, unless I’m in the playpen with them. I put 2 traps right next to their pen because I’m sure the mongoose will be back.

Yes. I haven’t been able to get the hardware cloth that I need locally to make them a bigger safe pen, so I’m going to have to order online. In the meantime they will be upset they have a smaller pen, but at least it’s very secure
