My ducks won't eat treats?!

mmmmm... peas!

Also, mine go CRAAAAAZY for worms! When I turn over the pools to clean and refill them there are always bunches of worms under there and they'll gobble them right out of my hand! Now anytime I show up at the breeding pens to clean the water they come right up quacking and looking for treats. Sometimes they try to eat my toes if I don't get them something else quick enough! - LOL

Candice's Peeps :

They did eat the peas I gave them...thanks for the suggestion! I will have to pick up some romaine for them from the store next time I go. Has anyone tried feeder goldfish in their "ponds" for their ducks?

I put minnows or "shiners" from the local bait shop in my pond occasionally. Ducks love them and have fun chasing them!

My ducks tend to be prejudice based on color. They LOVE peas, spinach, lettuce, DANDILIONS (free around the yard!), etc...the only NON green colored foods I've seen them eat are feeder fish, worms, and slugs. I tried crickets and they ran away quacking bloody murder...guess those were some scary little crickets.

How about tomatoes? I fed my 1 1/2 week ducklings some chopped up tomatoes in a bow lof water and they went crazy.

I spend as much time as possible sitting on the floor with my ducks/ducklings and gosling. However, they are little thieves. They are worse than my dogs. They will try anything (that doesn't mean that they then like it). Whenever I'm eating in front of them, they act as if I'm depriving them of all sustenance. If I blink, they grab whatever they can reach. Their latest grabs that they liked: carrots, grapes, watermelon, apples, pot roast, Mike & Ike candy, nuts, and cheese. Have you ever tried pulling a Mike & Ike out of a goslings beak? No one won in that exchange.

I've tried eating a salad in front of them. They went crazy. I ended up with scratches all over myself. I know, it was my fault.

The usual treats: peas, greens, dandelions, grass, feeder fish, meal worm, and slugs.

I can second this. I tried to give my guys a handful of leftover frozen mixed veggies as opposed to plain peas. They wouldn't touch the first handful, which was mostly carrots and corn. When I grabbed a handful with more peas, they went crazy and ate all the rest. So, if you have something else you want them to "recycle" for you, maybe try adding peas to it first?

Mine love peas also (even Pita who wouldn't touch anything that was a "treat" for a month!) They also all love apples, when i make an apple pie i give all of the peelings to them (without the cores) its great other wise it would be trash.
