Pet Cat

When we hand-raised chicks we kept them out of sight of our cats till they were at least three weeks old and never had any problems. When we've let broodies raise them, we don't worry at all. Woe betide the cat, dog or ... alligator that gets near a hen-raised chick, lol! (We don't have alligators here but I pity the fool alligator that would try.)

Do any of you have a problem with a pet cat trying to get at chickens? I’m interested in getting some chickens so this is definitely something I would need to look into. My cat is relatively old and has never had a particular interest in hunting… but still I think it would be safe to check.
Quite the opposite. Initially she found them entertaining, when they got fully grown she's kind of scared of them. Different times she's tried to bully them but then one day one of the roosters retaliated: pecked and kicked her and chased her off. So these days she keeps her distance.

That being said, I'd never trust any cat with young chicks. That's just way too much of a temptation for a feline.
