My Easter Egger Rooster viciously attacking some of my hens.

Just an Update!

The pullets are doing great now. The ones he attacked have some pretty rough feathers on the back and heads; but with doctoring and generous amounts of Blu-Kote they are doing fine and not being attacked by the others.

They come out of the house more and ate from my hand this morning and walked on my feet and hung out close to me. Before they were pretty skittish of me and stayed in the coop more. They also make contented clucking noises a lot. They have been zooming around more(head down fast running ha-ha), I think maybe they were afraid the Roo would freak if they did that before. So I think they are quite happy without the rooster and I am too. Thanks for the advice!

It's almost amazing the immediate joy that comes from locking up a rogue cockerel.

My girls all view me as the dominant figure. I did end up with a Polish cockerel from the hatchery, but he's pretty mellow because my older ladies opened a can of kick butt on him if he got out of line. The younger girls (21 weeks) are starting to lay, and he's interested, but I've not seen him mounting any of them. He views me as the giver of food - I've seen no aggressive moves, but will take action if I do.

Previously, I had an EE rooster who started this same type of behavior as your rooster at about 11 weeks. It's testosterone poisoning

! He won't get any better. My best day was when a hawk got mine. He was wonderful with the hens once he grew up a bit, but was always human aggressive. Good luck with your pullets!
