My Eggs are Cheeping! Due to Hatch 12/4!

I don't know much about the origination of showgirls, but my understanding is also that they were crossed with a turken. I'm sure it took a lot of work to breed back to the silkie qualities and keep the bare neck. Good luck on your venture with giving it a try! I don't know how many generations it would take.
I just got home to see a pip!

Unfortunately my darn incubator had dropped in temperature to about 97, hope it wasn't like that long, but I have it back up now. When I added warm water to keep the humidity up, it still brought the temp down. Grrr. Note to self: invest in a better incubator. Just using an LG, which overall has worked pretty good. Had 2 eggs in it last time, both made it full term and hatched out nice little paints on the 14th. All of my eggs have developed and made it to lockdown, sure hope they all hatch! Now that one has pipped this is going to be a sleepless night...

I have two LG's going as well as my hovabators and Brinsea. The LG's can be such a pain to maintain the temp on but I've found if I cover mine with a nice thick towel it helps a lot.

I just checked on them to find the pip hasn't changed but another egg is zipping right now. Another egg has also pipped!

Temp and humidity are doing great, so I'm happy. Overall the LG works really well for me up until I do lockdown when I add the water I have a little bit of trouble getting the temp reset, but I think I'm good now. Might look into getting a Brinsea.... Those are cool!

2:23am the first one is out! It is paint! Yay! I see movement on another egg that had pipped, so it may be zipping soon too.

Good Morning all!!
I have 1 chick out and 7 are piped as much as I can tell looking through those silly plastic scratched up windows. I would also like a nicer incubator. Do they make one where you can see EVERYTHING going on and still have about 2 doz. eggs in there.

My husband who says I can not get more eggs thinks I should get a better incubator so I don't lose as many..... So I am thinking it must just be your husbands job to say" no more eggs, we have enough chickens"

It is going to be a long day.......Last night I would get all settled in my chair with my blanket on, 4 dogs in my lap all jockeying for position.
I get my little lap top set half on a dog, then type a bit then have to get up to go check on the peepers, come back and start all over again.

Check Amazon the have one for $99.00 with free shipping that looks like a small refrigerator with a nice clear front door. Also it cools as well so if you live an a warm climate you can incubate in the summer months!

Thanks Melissa,
I just checked out that incubator on Amazon( love amazon) It is cool but the reviews are not real good. The temps are not even through out ,that is the same reason I lost chicks with my hovabator with no fan. My hovabator with the fan works ok but still temperamental.
I think my heart is set on a used sportsmen?

Great news that your babies are hatching too! Your morning sounds similar to mine. I'm sooo tired.

Current progress for me: 4 chicks out, all appear to be paints, I can clearly see black spots on 2 of them, when the other two are dry I'll get a closer look at them. 2 could be white so will see when I can get a better look. Another has pipped!

Aww how nice of your husband. Mine has been helping me check the incubator so I don't get a permanent smooshed nose from looking in there all the time!
Funny you bring up the small fridge incubators. There's one on ebay for 89.00 that someone said on here they used and it works great. Nice full front window too. I was tempted. There's a "make offer" option on it too and shipping is only like 10.00. The downsides are it is bright red, it doesn't have turner, and I haven't found any long term reviews to give an indication of how long it holds up. I LOVE the idea it has a car charger though. How great would that be for mid winter incubation emergency???? Out here where I am, power outages happen fairly often. I've been lucky so far.
I haven't been able to make up my mind. Would be really nice to have something with a better window and car charger option, and they seem to get to the right temp quickly from what I read, but it's about 100.00 and what I have has been working well. Sure, it stresses me out at lockdown, but so far with eggs that aren't shipped, I've found 100% fertility and got them all to develop to lockdown, so my incubator can't be that bad. If only it was easier to get the temp and humidity stable at lockdown..... Either way, I'm good to go now, I've got babies hatching out!!

If anyone else uses a little mini fridge/ heater, I'd love to hear more about them....

Now there are 2 pips!
