My eggs are coming today. How long do I let them rest?

I am getting my very first hatching eggs today...How long should I let them 'rest' before putting them in the incubator? I have a Brinsea Mini Advance. I also need to know what interval to set the turning. It goes from like 45 to 180 minutes between turns. Sorry for the dumb questions but I have never done this before and I am very excited! I want them to have the best chance of hatching... Going to go pick me up a "new to me" coop too so when they are bigger they will have a safe "homeland". How do you wait? I'm ready for hatching now and I don't even have the eggs yet.

I was told a min. of 24 hours for them to settle from shipping. Ideally you want them to go in the bator within the first 10 days(of the eggs being layed). Find out when they were layed, collected, shipped, and then you'll be able to get them in before the 10 day mark! It's best to store them in a cool dark place like 60degrees big end up! You may want to tilt them once while storing them. You'll want to warm them up gradually as to not shock them! As far as the rotation??? I just know that they need to be turned 3 times a day(you can mark them with an X on one side and an O on the other side to b sure that they are turning enough). Maybe call the company and see what they recommend. If you go to the BYC homepage you will find articles about hatching eggs! Good luck!!!! I have my first batch in my friend's bator right now!!! Let me know how you make out:thumbsup...that's the bator that I'm looking at buying!!! Blessings,Keri

I have had this bator plugged in at different times and places since I got it just to see how stable the temps stay. It has not varied but .1 degree each time so I think it is going to work great. It was on sale at brinsea.com for 119...Good luck with your hatch too!

I don't want to hijack this thread, I just have a quick related question. I've got my eggs resting at 60 degrees right now. My incubator is in a utility room heated to 80 degrees. Should I let the eggs sit at 80 degrees for a little while to gradually warm up before placing them in the incubator? Or should I just go from the 60 storage temp to the 100-degree incubator?

I would move them to the room the bator will be in. Just as a precaution. the closer the temp the less the shock of change. You really just dont want the initial shock of the temp fluctuation. say going from 50 to 100. 60 to 100 is still a pretty big jump. I put mine in at room temp 70 and they are doing great. But the bator was not quite up to temp yet either. Hope this helps.

and yes 24 hours at room temp is always suggested to settle after shipment for eggs.

Good luck to all and God Bless!

Temp stays at 99.5 or 99.6. I don't have a hygrometer yet nor have i put water in the little holder yet. Going to Radio Shack when I pick up the kids from school and the eggs from my husband's office...I have been moving it around to decide where it will be safest from kids, dog, hubby, and of course our 20 lb cat Elvis...
