My room has a bit of light coming in from the outside but I still dream a lot.I read recently that it has to be absolutely dark for us to dream, and that's hard to come by. If there's a computer or even a clock in your room, a night light or a plug in room deodorizer, that's too much light. So I got one of those sleep masks and sure enough, I dream now and I didn't before. My sleep is more restorative and I don't wake up hung over from poor sleep.
