My elderly chicken started laying eggs. I think some shell might remain inside her...

I have soaked her vent and felt around with a glove and olive oil but can't feel anything. She was really tired and messy with the egg and straw.

She's back outside now, is there anyone here that could advise how I can help her pass any remaining she'll please?
I'm going to try giving her some coconut oil for now

Give her raw egg white to eat. It's slimier that the oil and would coat the shell better.

You left out the part about how the shell came to be broken and what leads you to believe it broke. The complete story might affect how we advise you. We might conclude something else is going on.

From another thread I think her back end was covered in egg. At least that is what I understood from @Marie2020

Multiple threads on the same subject with only partial information don't benefit anyone. This is an object lesson. I prefer not to waste my time on them.
Oh no! It is not multiple threads. Marie and I were chatting and I suggested she post here so people like you can give her advice.
Otherwise she was just getting my thoughts in our chat and I am not that experienced!

More information is necessary if further advice is wanted. If the egg might still inside the hen, we need to know. The treatment is very involved and should be started immediately. That's as far as we can take this with the scant info provided.

I just worried it might have been a broken egg because no shell was evident in the egg she was covered in.
I only have free range eggs here , she hasn't laid an egg in a long time except maybe one several months ago. Plus She has laid two in the past two weeks and ate them both. This morning was very messy with this egg I had no alternative other than to clean her especially around her beak and nostrils.

Then i began to think that she may be laying soft shelled eggs. She is running around since I posted in this thread and seems fine.

It would be good to have your thoughts on her as I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as most here.

Here she is after resting and having 5mils of honey and salt water

Many thanks for your help it's very much appreciated and again my thanks to @RoyalChick

I would still appreciate being told of various methods of removing eggshell.

Thanks for your time 😀

You're going to force me to go into a long list of questions, aren't you? Did you give her the raw egg white? Did she eat it all? If you haven't given it to her, why not?

Is you hen still egg bound? Or has it resolved?

How do you know there is egg shell inside her? Describe evidence for it. Was there yolk coming from her vent?

What is her behavior? Has she returned to normal? Or is she acting sick?

Describe her poop. In detail. Watery, or normal? What color? Does it have a worse than usual smell that you don't normally smell with her poop?

Is there any blood coming from her vent?

How old is she?

I was attending all that was necessary . I will not bore you with the details plus we are on a different time zone

As I believe I already wrote. I only have access to purchased freerange eggs. But yes she had the white of the egg.

No I do not believe she is egg bound

I said I was concerned this may have been a problem but no evidence of this. Now I think it is only a soft shell due to her age.

She returned to normal and was running around after I gave her salt and honey water

This is her 💩
