Is there a word to describe the "drop down" of a chicken's bottom that occurs at the onset of egglaying? I'm a geek for terminology and this one is bugging me. I've actually caught myself saying, "No, I don't think she's started laying yet, she doesn't have the fatbottom". Know what I mean? Chooks that haven't started laying, even if they're full size, have a slender rear view, with feathers that lie down. Girls that are laying eggs, have..well...fatbottoms! A round, saggy thing, with feathers that are poofy.
Someone tell me I'm not a nut, please.
