My favorite coop improvement

I covered my run with the sunblock roofing rather than the clear plastic. My chickens love the shade of the run, they spend all day out in their run and it stays totally dry.

I wonder if that Norman Rockwell image would include the neighborhood kids tracking poop into their homes when they go home?

I like your run, how tall is it?

It is raining buckets today and their run is still very dry, chickens are loving it

The first section of run that I built that attaches to the coop is 4'x8' and then I added on another 4'x7.5' to allow for some overlap of the roof panels and also give a few inches of overhang off the end of the panels for rain runoff.

The height of the run is 5+' high next to the coop, then 3.5' high where the two runs meet in the middle and then a little over 2' at the end of the run. The door on the right on the end of the run is big enough for an adult to enter if needed (hands and knees), but I use it mostly for throwing in an occasional treat. I can rake it out from there with a horse manure rake. The other day I threw a huge bunch of leaves in the shorter run for the chickens to pick though and shred...that will keep them busy during the rainy season.

Converting our kid's playhouse into a coop turned out great. Lots of windows, double dutch door, check out that window to the right of the pop door that can be left open for ventilation without rain getting in, then the North and South side windows can remain shut during the windy or raining days.

Chickening is fun,

Hugh
