My first adventure with bumblefoot

Hi purpletree,
Well, its hard to tell. She's still in her little cage. I think it is, but I'm not completely sure yet. Some chickens just seem to have slightly different leg sizes natrually. (I know I do! haha) Her foot is still a little red when the hard knot was between her toes, but I think that's from the skin having been stretched for so long. I've been giving her yogurt and powdered probiotic to counteract the GI affects of the antibiotic. But she seems okay now. I'll probably let her out with the others tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on her leg.

just dealt with this for the first time today, here is her foot

i bandaged it for a few nites with a drawing salve, but this morning it had an edge on it, so i pulled it off, and sprayed it with bluekote- it seemed to just pop out- weird- she seemed more annoyed at being fussed with than her foot- very little bleeding, but it did leave a hole

Hi artsyrobin,
Was your chicken limping? Mine never did. Could you see in the hole, if it looked normal in there? I'm wondering if the solid ones that are black and hard are no longer infectious and well-sealed off.

yes- she was limping, which is what clued me in, i think you may be right - because nothing showed infection, but almost like a hard rock- the edges bled a little, like if you skinned it- i was thinking it probably felt like a callous that starts bothering you when you walk- i also found out rough roosts can cause it, so i need to work on the roosts- they are just old boards we had around here
