Big Bertha and Sunflower became the proud parents of two newly hatched ducklings this evening. Can't wait to see how many more hatch

Update: Big Bertha and Sun flower are the proud parents of 11 babies. Boy am I glad it's them. LOL But they are so cute. Big Bertha is such a good momma and Sun Flower seems to be a good dad. We checked the other eggs that she quit sitting on and there were 6 babies that never made it out of the eggs. It was so sad, they were almost fully developed. No clue why they didn't finish. God needed them more.

Hi!

Congratulations!!

Some pictures of your ducklings would be very much appreciated.

We checked the other eggs that she quit sitting on and there were 6 babies that never made it out of the eggs. It was so sad, they were almost fully developed. No clue why they didn't finish. God needed them more.

Sometimes, they can't get out of the egg because of a misplaced foot : one foot is positionned abnormally (not where it should be), and because of that, a duckling - though perfectly healthy - is not able to break the egg... and ends up dying from lack of oxygen...

Solution is : to make a tiny hole in the air sac once the internal pip is confirmed, and then assist the duckling by removing part of the eggshell once the membrane is dry.
If the membrane is not dry, don't touch it.

Just in case, here is an article that could help you in the future :
