ThanksSome people say they can tell from the time the chicks hatch, by looking at the markings. I am not one of those people.
But from the time they grow feathers in their breast, you should be able to tell for sure: males get a black breast, females get a salmon-colored breast (much lighter than black.) The variety is called "Black Breasted Red" because of that black breast coloring in the males.
