My first batch of CX done: The Results

Do "CX" breed true? What do you do with all the birds sale them or eat them? Is it seasonal better in the summer or winter?

CX are the product of two hybrid chickens(don't ask me what four birds produce the parents, I don't know. It seems to be a secret) so, no, they don't breed true. I raise the birds for me and my family. My efforts feed a whole bunch of family members throughout the year. I raise three batches per year since that fits in the time between the last frost in the spring to the first one of fall. I just don't like dealing with frozen water fountains so I don't raise them in the winter. The chickens, the pigs and the garden are done and over just in time for hunting season. :)

2nd batch of Cornish X's. This year 37 (including one barred rock rooster) averaged 5.16 lbs at 7 weeks old, dressed weight.

Outstanding Joan, I've got 25 coming in Sept. Hope I do as well.

Thanks for this thread.....

I do the same thing all animals are sold and delivered by November 1 just in time for rutting bucks!

I do keep my layers all winter without issue. I have tried a couple different heated waterers that basically suck. So I converted a nipple water bucket I built to be heated.

All the info in this thread is great, and falls exactly into the ranges I was expecting.
