My first batch of quail eggs.

OK so when those chicks were huddling the temp had to be at least 5 or more degrees below 100. Chicks should be sort of evenly spread out throughout the incubator or brooder if temps are right. If temps are cold you will see huddling. You should never see huddling.

I have 2 so far. Wish I could go home and watch!

Wish this incubator had a fan. I just noticed that the temp was a few degrees lower if I set the temp probe on the floor. That must be the reason why so many did not hatch. As of 2am this morning it will be two days since the others hatched. I know every egg is heavy so I still hope more hatch but maybe the temp was just too low for most of them.

I have 3 chicks and a pip. So cute!
Congratulations

Go to a thrift store and look for a larger piece of electronic equipment that you know will have a fan (I use old PC fans) screw the fan (most of them have screw holes on the corners) on the wall of the incubator but leave about an inch between the fan and the wall for induction.

Poke a hole and run the wires outside.

Most older non smart phone cell phone charger supply the correct voltage (correct enough for what your doing anyway) to run the fan, so while your at the thrift store grab one of those too (you might have this stuff laying around).

Cut the charging end off the cord and expose the red and black wire. Connect them to the red and black wire you will find on the fan. If the wires aren't red and black just keep hooking them up (its low voltage, you won't get shocked) until the fan comes on and bobs your uncle.

Nice set up. I have everything here to add a fan. I had no idea that it would be that IMP or I would have done it before hand. Well still no movement to speak of on the rest. I only have 8 now cause I broke one open. It was warm and almost fully developed. So I guess I should give it more time. Is it just wishful thinking at this point? Its been almost 40 hours since the last one hatched. Makes me wonder just how far apart they could be.

I read on a thread here that someone had some eggs that hatched day 20. I'll be leaving mine until 20th then chucking them.

I have had one hatch today and there are a couple of pips. So out of 13, 4 hatched day 17 so far 1 hatch on day 18.

I was busy last week and didn't take my eggs out of the hatcher. 2 hatched on day 20 and I've seen them on 21 before.

That set-up is why i recommend people build their own incubators. Its just a mini fridge I gutted out. My total cost was $160 to build it.

Heating element- $20
Thermostat-$20
Turning racks $60/each

Everything else I had laying around or got free off of craigslist. I'll probably do a incubator build video soon because it think a lot more people would do it when they see how easy it is. The ice chest bators are even simpler to build and total cost on them if you have an ice chest is around $30 ($60-70 if you have to buy an ice chest)
