My FIRST blue egg! Cracked and EATEN!

I'd be locking her, and maybe all of them, in the coop for a few days.

When I went to let the chickens out at 8am this morning she had already laid her egg...on the floor...again.

At least it wasn't cracked or eaten!

Quite a few of my Brahmas lay theirs on the floor from time to time I have a large dog crate I put a piece of plywood on as a work table I put shavings those that layed on the floor are using the open dog crate

Yup I had a derpy hen that did this for a long time. Like she doesn't know it's coming. Sometimes she looks surprised, turns around and eats it if it's broken but usually she just wanders off like nothing happened.

I was able to get her to lay in a box by providing an assortment of boxes in different places, her favorite is a Rubbermaid tote just a couple inches off the ground so she just wanted something roomier to lay in! Most of the others prefer the buckets higher off the ground and like the cozier space. Maybe try some different boxes in different places and see if she takes to one over the others. Our tote discovery was accidental, we had one full of hay for the other nesting boxes get tipped over in the yard and the silly hen went to sit in it. Maybe she's the one that tipped it. Hah! I turned it into a proper nesting box with a little door and high enough lip for her hay to stay in, now it's the favorite spot for both my big ladies.

heck of an idea there I am putting a second coop up a smaller version of my geodesic barn and main coop mine use only two top nesting boxes or the dog crate we have several totes like that I am only putting 6 to 8 bards in it, I think maybe I will just give them two or three of those instead and may through a couple in the main coop getting rid of wood nesting boxes we built that they don't use.

It's always the ones that take the most work that they refuse. Mine would rather best in buckets, totes and old cardboard boxes(and once, in a pile of bricks in the neighbors yard!). I've given up figuring them out. Their quirky personalities are why we love them, right?
