My broody has chosen the one nesting box out of about a dozen that all 12 of my layers lay in. I tried to get in there today to see how many eggs she had, but she shrieked so loudly that Big Daddy came over to see what was wrong. (Big Daddy has 4 inch spurs and I have no desire for a huge hole in my leg, he's never attacked me, but I'm not taking any chances.)

I need to be able to get in and mark the ones soon that she is sitting on so I can pull out new ones. Do I wait until it's dark and go in and mark and pull new eggs?

Also, the nesting box she is in is about 3 feet off the ground. It does have a board in front to hold in the nesting material, but it's probably not the safest place. I do have a small coop I can move her to that's in the middle of the run. How and when I do I move her and the eggs?

I appreciate any help with my newbie issues!

Do it when its dark. Keep roo away for your safety. She will stay on her clutch of eggs wherever she ends up. It is puzzling sometimes why there are 12 nesting boxes and all want to use just a particular one. It is defiantly the most desired one by all hens for sure.
