My First buttons! need advice- Updated 2-17-09

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everyone! I really appreciate it.
I'm having a lot of fun watching them and their antics. They like to stand tall and
flap their wings.... stretching I guess. They seem to do it more in the morning so
maybe it's their morning exercises heheheee

Well it's in the picture on page 1. I got 2 of them that stack. I'm using one now for the pair , have an empty one, and lots of room in the yard to do an aviary type setting if I want.

What you have there is a male Slate(Silver and Blue Face mix) and a female Silver Pearl(Silver and Golden Pearl mix). In the silver mutations the males have pinkish feathering by the vent area instead of reddish like the darker colored ones. It is the diluted version of it. Also in the Blue Face mutation the bib is cancelled out. They are mistaken tons of times for hens because of the absense of a bib. You have a pretty pair there!

The only thing I would recommend differently though is to watch out for the wire top. They may be fine in it but they also could get really hurt on it if they bonk up when scared and hit the top. I have seen people use big bubble wrap to pad the inside of the top of wire cages for Quail to protect their heads. They can even scalp themselves or break their necks bonking. It is not a pretty sight to see! Good luck with them!!
