What others have said - have a mechanic look at them before buying. lRegardless of how well-maintained a car is, there is always wear and tear. A mechanic will tell you not only what needs to be fixed now, but also what might need to be done in the next year or so. They also can tell you what kind of service record that type of car has. You can use whatever work the mechanic says is going to be needed as a negotiating tool on the price. We just bought our son a 97 Honda which a friend had owned. They were asking $4,000. While the car had been well-maintained, there were a number of just basic things (brakes, for one) which needed to be done or which would need to be done over the coming year which added up to around $800. We negotiated the price and ended up paying $3400. Also look at what you're going to use your vehicle for. Do you need a truck because you're going to haul around a lot of things (or help a lot of friends move
)? If not, then the T-bird is probably the way to go. Also check insurance, registration, tax and licensing, as that all adds up. Good luck making your decision!
