My first chicken coop, thoughts?

You did a really nice job. I am new to chickens so take any advice I give with a grain of salt. We are finishing up our coop/run this week-end and my husband is obsessed with predator protection. I didn't see a pop door. Can you secure them inside at night? Love the color.

Good job...but just to be sure it will suffice, you can bring here to northern ontario canada and I can giveit a good test run for you

One can try...right??

but yes more ventilation will be good trust me, I had all sorts of ventilation issues in my coop and trust me its really airy as it is, yet chickens produce so much humidity!!!

Love the colour btw!!

Nice little coop! My only negative thought is that the slope of the roof tilts down towards the pop door and access door, which means when it rains or snows the run-off will be coming down on your head (and your chickens head) and into the run rather than away from the run. I wonder if you could run some rain gutters to help keep that from happening. Any chance of scraps from your construction site?

I am new to chickens too working with my first flock (not laying yet) so take my comments with a grain of salt too. First of all I think you've done an awesome job, you've got skills. On the critique side, is the run open on the top? If so predators can get in that way. Also it looks like chicken wire on the run? Raccoons and other predators can break through that. Spend a little time in the "predator" section of the forum to get a good spook on in regard to chicken wire, lol. It's heartbreaking to lose chickens to predators when you have a small babied flock, don't ask me how I know:(

We did put bird netting down ontop of the run. Also we put up the bird netting ontop of the poultry wire on the walls. We did this because unfortunately we did have animals get threw the poultry wire. The coop is also now locked up every night.

Like the blue, agree a rain gutter will save you a lot of work in upkeep, you know about the ventilation....now lets see pics of the chickens enjoying their new home!

Thanks for sharing some construction pics! I may be attempting a coop in a similar shape, and having a clear photo of the framing & insulation is very helpful to me. Love the color, too!
