I know how you feel I bought my house and still I waited 2 years until I got my chickens and it was worth it. Our neighbors didn't care but we have unusally large lots for city living so the coop is very far back and away from anyone so it would bother anyone so no one cares. I also think that I did a lot of work to clean up the property and I have a fence going up so I've increased the property value. I think as long as you take good care of your property you usually don't have a problem. I would find articles online and show how BYC is a good thing and should be continued. Good luck with everything can't wait to see pics!miquid, I agree. It would be hard to notice a rooster with all the sirens. I live in a pretty small city. When I heard that the city council was thinking about making it legal to have poultry on a regular city lot, I was surprized that it was previously illegal. I was renting until last year, so I hadn't really thought about getting chickens yet. We really like our new neighbors, so we really want to be courtious about owning chickens. So far, they seem a little worried, but supportive of the experiment. I hope that they will like the chickens and the eggs that we plan on sharing with them, so much that maybe they might get some, too.

We have been doing a lot to our property as well. The previous owner was a pet hoarder and let her dogs dig up the entire yard. She also let the trees and bushes get so overgrown and planted trees inappropriate to the size of the lot. We had to have a service come and cut them all down and remove the stumps. We have planted a front lawn, put in raised bed vegetable gardens, and loads of other stuff. It is a work in progress, but the neighbors appreciate that we are working on it. It looks loads better, already. I think the reason they are a bit tentative about chickens in the neighborhood is because the pet hoarder lady put them all off of animals. The above picture is the coup we just finished. We still have to level off the dirt and plant around it, but it is very cute. The bird on my shoulder is Lilith. She is two weeks old now, and comes to me and jumps right in my hand when I call her. All of my girls are so cute.
