My first chicks!

Good. Make sure they have an area that’s about 90, maybe 95 degrees the first week, as well as an area that’s a bit cooler so they can get away if they get too warm Lower the temperature by 5 degrees every week. If you notice that they avoid the area under the heat lamp, raise it a bit, it’s too warm for them. Their behavior is your best indicator of their needs.

Yes, eat sleep and poop…..They grow fast, before you know it they will have little feathers and fly out of the brooder any chance they get ;) Check their little bums for stuck on poop…. Clean gently if needed. If they get “plugged” it’s not good. Usually by 2 weeks chance of pasty butt is mostly remote.

I usually use a wet qtip or wet (warm water) cotton ball to soak and gently clean. Doesn’t happen all the time but something to watch for
I'm literally writing an article about the cotton ball method right now! :highfive: They're also great for fluffing the down while you dry them off.

Hey everyone! I am picking up my babies here soon and I'm experiencing Chicken Mama Nerves! Any tips on how to raise them? This is my first time pls help
It's very important to observe the chicks on any signs of distress. I offered them electrolytes to keep them hydrated and check on the feces for any signs of diarrhea or blood. Keeping them warm is very important also, specially at night. Good luck with your new addition to your family 😍
