My First Coop Build - Work In Progress

My $20 brooder turned out so well I built my own king size bed...that turned out so well when it came time to start NEEDING to get the chicks out of the garage...and with all the ideas here...there was no better solution that to try and build my own coop.

So far my tally is at $581.00 and I started the paint today

Learned A LOT...like four 8x8 walls do NOT fit on an 8x8 base!! That painting in the high desert winds is NOT a good idea.

I still have to finish painting, add in the roosts, add trim, figure out how to close off the windows at night / in winter. Make the door, paint the sign and attach the roof.

There is also going to be a concrete porch and overhang..this is the first building in what will eventually (hopefully) look like a old west town. I still need a tack shed, hay shed, and of course...probably another chicken coop and maybe brooding / incubation building

But the first step is to get all the little buggers out of my garage!!

good build

for closing windows in summer just cover with wire mesh , mold it inside your window space ,frame it out ,if you held onto the cuts for the windows holes , hinges & locks for the winter.

It sounds like those power tools are going to get a workout.Ventilation is keyheat or cold . For now the hardware mesh is gonna be your new best friend. you will have to post pics with your old west town.
