My first coop build

here's a small update. the weather has turned bitter cold and in my ripe old age of 32 I can't take it like I used to. Anyway, I got a little more off the list so here goes.

last time I had one side of the roof sheeting nailed on. I had to go to Lowe's and get another piece of 5/8". it wasn't all that bad though. thge lady rang me out for a sheet of 7/16"

and before you think I knew better I tried to tell her but she said she knew what it was. so I said OK.

I got back to the hacienda and nailed it on. Next I figured I'm going to need to start on the siding. My FIL showed up and helped me with it. Even though I appreciate his help, I kind of like to do things on my own. So I let him start to work on it while I finished up the window section and sheeting.

and the window.

Lastly, I covered it all up with cedar sheeting

I then decided since my nest boxes would be exposed I would paint the outside for right now in case we got around to the siding. I plan to go back later and paint all the nest boxes inside and out.

as you can see I went ahead and put my tar paper on the roof as well

I tried to get as much done while he worked on the siding.

and finally, the finished product for one side of the coop and the beginning of the wondow section.

we've gotten more done but like I said it's been cold and I haven't taken any pictures. I'll try and get some more soon.

total cost thus far... $87.27 (I also bought another gallon of paint. I'm going with a red & white scheme. like an old barn)

bird_is_the_word what a nice coop, you have done an outstanding job, may I suggest Brahmas, they are great egg layers, very gentle large birds, very cold hardy with feathered legs..

Well I'm just trying to be detailed in case I need to change something. this is my first so I just want to do it right

tonight I got a lot done on the siding. we have the window side finished and halfway across the nest boxes. I think you guys will like the nest boxes when I finish. I got a pretty neat idea (at least I think so)

I'll snap some finished pics tomorrow and get them up. thanks again for checking it out.

Hello neighbor! I love your coop, and the craftsmanship is outstanding. I'm researching my to build my own coop right now, and seeing the pictures of yours has inspired me, as well as taught me a thing or two about the construction techniques I need to learn. I can only hope mine looks half as nice as yours, and lasts even half as long! Keep the pictures coming!
